Dr. Alva Jean Chesser, Dr. Debbie Brewer, and Dr. James Daryl Chesser, share a faith filled word!
“He is dead “, they told their father.
“See, here is the proof.”
And they held up his bloody coat of many colors, as the lies poured out!
Such grief came over him - but oops!
They did not tell their father they had thrown him into a pit.
They did not tell their father they then sold him off as a slave to a caravan of Midianite merchants, who took him to Egypt.
They did not admit that their hatred and envy over this next to the youngest brother, Joseph, caused them to sell him and dip his coat of many colors into the blood of animals to show to their Father and pretend Joseph had been killed!
It was what it was........BUT WAIT! GOD HAS A PLAN! IT ISNT OVER YET!!
Joseph was gone, but I’m sure he was not forgotten.
The Midianite merchants sold him to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard.
The great news was that God was with Joseph! Everywhere he went, he excelled, and even Potiphar noticed and realized Joseph was greatly favored by God.
So, the lies continue! Potiphar’s wife decided she wanted to have sex with Joseph, but he resisted her every single time, because he did not want to sin against God!
Then came the day that he literally ran away from her as she grabbed his coat and screamed that he had forced himself upon her.
Even with all of that, God showed him favor!
Joseph was thrown into prison with Pharaoh’s chief cupbearer and chief baker. In time, they each had a dream and Joseph interpreted both correctly, and within 3 days, the dreams came to pass as Joseph interpreted them. They were released from prison, the chief cupbearer to serve Pharaoh and the chief baker to be hanged.
In time, Pharaoh had troubling dreams which no one could interpret. Then, suddenly, the chief cupbearer remembers! “Oh, yeah. I had a dream 2 years ago and this guy in prison correctly interpreted my dream.”
The cupbearer told Pharaoh about it and Pharaoh called for Joseph to come out of prison to see if he could interpret the dreams, and yes, he could! Joseph recognized that God was the One Who gave the dreams, and God was the One Who would give the interpretations.
The interpretations turned out that there would be 7 years of plenty and then there would be 7 years of great famine worldwide. God also gave instruction of how to handle all of it so there would be food during that great famine.
Joseph was then put in charge, second in command only to Pharaoh, to put the plan to work - and it did!
During the time of the great famine - when things got so dark and so terribly bad - people from around the known world came to barter with Joseph for food!
One day, Joseph’s brothers, except for Benjamin, showed up to get food. He recognized them, but they had no inkling whatsoever that this was their brother they had treated so badly, and then lied to their father about his death! He not only looked different, he spoke a different language now.
Joseph asked about his Father and his little brother, Ben. They assured him they were fine. Joseph tells them they can never see him again unless they bring Benjamin with them, and he also has Simeon bound and kept until they come back again for food. He has their money put back in their sacks which strikes great fear in their hearts. How did their money get back in their sacks?
After they get home, they tell their father all about their visit, and that they had to leave Simeon there. Also, they would not be able to get Simeon back nor get any more food unless they have Benjamin with them, which greatly grieved their father, Jacob.
They held off as long as they possibly could, but when it got desperate for them, finally Judah stood up and told his Dad he could hold him personally responsible if he did not bring Benjamin back. Jacob relented and sent them all to get more food from Joseph.
Joseph became so overwhelmed with emotion when he saw all of them again, including Benjamin, he had to leave the room to cry.
After sending them on their way with food, etc., he had his steward chase them down to find his silver cup, which Joseph had had placed in the sack of Benjamin. They all went back to Joseph’s and Judah pleaded with him to please not keep Benjamin because that would kill his Father.
Joseph finally, with great emotion, revealed himself to all his brothers, and said to them.
“Now do not be upset or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.
God sent me ahead of you to preserve you as a remnant on the earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
“So now it was not you who sent me here, but God..”
Genesis 45:5, 7-8 MEV
Pharaoh heard about all of this and sent wagons, livestock, food, clothing and many things to move Isaac and all 70 of his household to the land of Goshen!!
The story continues with many things regarding Joseph and the children of Israel, and I left out many details, one with his brothers bowing many times before Joseph, just as he had dreamed.
As I thought about this and remembered the ‘Great Reveal’ and ending of this story, I couldn’t help but think of America, our America, and the Grace God Himself has poured out across this land over and over!!
I believe we shall yet see the Grace of God once again be poured out across our land in so many ways, we, like Joseph, will be overcome at the goodness of God in the land of the living!!
